  2. The Native American's contributed many things to US culture. As far as language goes, words commonly used in English such as barbecue, cannibal, hurricane, maize, manatee, and tobacco all are originally from the Native American language. The Native Americans also introduced many new crops to the Europeans. Crops such as corn, squash, and beans would have remained unknown to the European's had it not been for the Native Americans.

Since europeans first began coming to the New World, many words used by Native Americans were incorporated into European languages and the English language spoken in the United States today. For example, words like moccasin, tomahawk, igloo, canoe, hurricane, and hammock started all as words used by Native American tribes. Another thing Native Americans gave to the Europeans was various crops not available in Europe. For instance, crops like corn, squash, beans, potatoes, and tomatoes were all imported from the New World to European countries. As one can see, the Native Americans contributed many things to Europe that caused many people to gain new experiences.

  5. Upon arriving in the new world the Europeans were bombarded with new things to experience. of course the Europeans didn't have names for such things. So the question remains, what do we call these new things? Well, the Europeans weren't going to make up new words, so they used the Native Americans' words. These words include: tomahawk, canoe, moose, moccasin (Obviously), and, as my mother so graciously pointed out, husky. As fore newly discovered crops, they include the following: tobacco (The Big One), sugar cane, squash, pumpkins, chocolate (Delicious), and the their main crop, corn.

  6. When the Europeans arrived in the Americas, they were greeted by the Native Americans. The Native Americans brought many new things to the European culture such as language and crops, that have been adopted into today's culture. To start off with, the Native Americans brought words to the English language, such as parka, toboggan, tobacco, and many other words that inspire the names of modern - day cities and towns, some local, such as Piscataway. Furthermore, as a result of two different cultures colliding, new crops were introduced. These crops consist of corn, squash, and tobacco. The Native Americans had a great effect on the lives of the Europeans, and also today's modern society.

Europeans exploring the new world encountered many new things such as foods, land objects and animals. Due to the overwhelming amount of new things, the Europeans adopted words or phrases that the Native Americans had already created. The Europeans did tweak some of the words but all the words originated within the Native American tribes. Some of the words adopted are still used today such as raccoon, tomato, chocolate, avocado, pecan and many more. The Native Americans introduced many crops to Europeans. some include, corn, beans, squash, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, peppers, pineapples, tomatoes, peanuts, and tobacco.

The Native Americans have contributed vastly to The culture of the US. It's all but impossible to travail cross the US and not run into a town, geographical formation, or region named after a Native tribe, leader or folklore. As well, the general spirit of resolve in the face of an ever changing world, yet they still remain prosperous and hold on to thier cultural routes. Not only do native ideas of preserving nature govern their own lives, but they are passed on to us.

Many of the words they taught the Europeans are still used to this day. The Native Americans also showed Europeans crops. The cocoa bean, peanuts and papaya are all known thanks to the Native Americans. Without the Native Americans many of the crops and words used today would have never been discovered.

  12. Many of the words we use today came from the Native Americans after the diffusion of culture with the European. There are many place names and food names that originated from the Native American languages, such as Algonquian, Nahuatl, and Quechua. State names, such as Mississippi and Michigan came from the Algonquian language. Mississippi came from the Algonquian word, mihsisiipiiwi, meaning great river. Michigan came from the word meehcakamiwi, meaning great sea. Oklahoma came from the Choctaw Indian language, meaning red people. Many food names also came from the Native Americans. Pecan came from the Algonquian word, pakani. Chocolate came from the Nahuatl word, xocolātl. Jerky came from the Quechua word ch'arki. Igloo came from the Inuktitut word, iglu. 13. Native Americans have influenced our voices on a huge scale. Some of us don't even realize the words we speak every day are based on what the Natives spoke hundreds of years ago. Words like hickory, pecan, chipmunk, caribou, avocado, tapioca, bayou, savannah, blizzard, and poncho, all derive from their tongue. Even some of our state names are based off of Native American words and tribes. The Dakotas, Nebraska, Texas, Minnesota, Oregon, Arizona, and Ohio are some examples. Not only words and names, but crops too have been blessed upon us because of the natives. Guavas, papayas, pineapples, potatoes, beans, cacao, and manioc are all great things we have because of the Native Americans and the Colombian Exchange.

The natives introduced them to the way they hunted, grew crops, and lived in their society.Although they were very different from the English, they eventually had picked up a few things. Words like moccassin, caribou, nebraska, canoe, igloo and many more have been added to today's vocabulary. Not only did the English pick up words, but they were introcuded to new crops. It is for these reasons that the English language as we know it today in some ways. Many of the words we speak are influenced by, or derived from, the language spoken by the Native Americans. Some examples of these words are moccasin, toboggan, canoe, and believe it or not, chocolate. Even some of the states here in the U.S are named after Native American tribes or influenced by words pre-existing in their language. Two examples are Ohio and Mississippi. They also brought trade, but the Native American's language also contributed to the English life style as well as some words. Many of these words are states that we live in today, for example Nebraska, Minnesota and Organ. The English also adapted words for crops like, beans, papayas and one of my favorite fruits pineapples. The last way that the Native American's contributed to our culture is they created things like, blizzard, poncho and the savanna.

The Native American language, though different from the Europeans native language, was adopted into a part of the language we speak today. Many of the common words we hear today are from the Native Americans, such as: moccasins, toboogan, tobacco, canoe, and even igloo. Even states in America are named from words given from the Natives for example, North and South Dakota. Another very important thing Europeans got from the Native Americans was the foregin foods they grew. The Eurpoeans traded with the Native Americans and through that many crops were introduced to both. From the Native Americans the Europeans got pumpkins, corn, tobacco, chocolate, pineapples, turkey, and potatoes.

  23. After sailing across the Atlantic Ocean and arriving in the Americas, European explorers made quick work of taking advantage of the land's inhabitants, the hospitable Native Americans. Although the time spent in the Americas was mostly composed of colonization, trade, the looting of precious stones and minerals, and mass murder of Native American tribes, the Europeans managed to inherit afew words from their friends the "indians". Some states such as the state of Arkansas (named after Quapaw tribe) and the state of Massachusetts (named after Massasoit). The Europeans also borrowed words from the indigenous languages in the Americas relating to animals. The words chipmunk (originally chitmunk from Odawa), coyote (originally coyotl), iguana (originally iwana from Arawakans) were all brought to the English language as a result of cultural diffusion. The Native Americans also introduced crops to the Europeans such as cocoa beans, chocolate, cassava, papaya and tobacco.

When the Europeans first arrived to the new world, they were influenced by the natives’ culture, customs and traditions. From this initial encounter and eventual adaptation of some of the natives’ ways, the English language has acquired a sum of words that originate formerly from the languages of these native people. Several of these words include caribou, chipmunk, raccoon, squash, succotash, hickory, barbeque, totem, canoe and hurricane. Additionally, many of the names of natural landmarks, towns, cities and states have names that commence from Native American languages. Examples of these names include Mississippi, Michigan, Wyoming, Chicago and Illinois. Europeans were able to not only adopt words from native languages, but they were also introduced to a variety of different foods that would prove to be very useful to the survival of the Europeans in the Americas. The word “Bayou” comes from the Choctaw word “Bayuk,” meaning a creek or secondary water cource, leading to a body of water. “Pecan” comes from the Illinois tribe, the original word being “Pakani.” Another contribution the Native Americans brought to the Europeans were the introduction of crops. Some of these included corn, beans, squash and potatoes. most countries in europe have most of their language based on latin and greek words. america is the same way except we also have alot of our language based off the native americans. an example would be the word "skunk". the skunk is and animal that lays out a foul oder when surprised. it can also in some cases temporarily blind someone or give them watery and scratchy eyes. some crops that were introduced to the europeans were tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, ect... these names are the same ones the native americans used hundreds of years ago.
